How the Hobbit Relates to God

If you haven’t seen The Hobbit, it’s okay. Don’t freak out.  In the beginning of the movie Bilbo Baggins is having an interesting conversation with Gandalf the Wizard. Near the end of the scene Gandalf says, “Well you know my name or whether you don’t remember I belong to it, I am Gandalf and Gandalf means…me.”
You may guess where I’m going with this. Another quote in Exodus 3:14 “God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM.” And he said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” Do you see the correlation? In The Hobbit Gandalf is well…himself. You can’t really explain it. God is who He says He is, nothing more nothing less. He is everything.
How do explain everything? You can’t. And thus is the characteristic of God. Unchangeable, mysterious and you never know what’s coming, therefore unpredictable. How can you really elaborate on something of that multitude?
God is also unexplainable (hmmm, that would make sense) and therefore doesn’t require a cause.  If you delve into the inexplicable wonders of the Creator you may end up angry or rather confused. You have probably heard people say “God is even bigger than the universe!” While that is completely true…isn’t the universe pretty much infinite?? Exactly.
Try and grasp that one it’s impossible! We could change that quote from the movie to: “Well you know my name or whether you don’t remember I belong to it, I am the I AM and I AM means…God.”

P.S. Sorry this post was so late, I admit I had to do a little cramming, plus I had trouble with the formatting so that's why everything kinda look funny :)

  1. I loved the Hobbit book...and this makes me want to see the movie.

How true.. I can't explain the universe. I mean, how big is it and does it ever have an end? What is at the end? My sister asked me if I touched the end of the universe, would it be a wall made of stars? The universe is beautiful, wild and thoroughly inexplicable.
How much less can I explain God!

  2. I couldn't have said it better myself :) Sometimes I almost challenge myself to imagine how big God is and I end up huffing at the extreme exercise of overworking my imagination.

P.S. I have been following your blog and I must say that my wish list on Amazon is growing rapidly!
